Last week we spoke a little about the incredible benefits of NAD+ supplementation and the plethora of clinical studies that are being conducted which are producing astoundingly positive results. If you missed that article, please go back and check it out because NAD+ supplementation is a staple and consistent protocol recommendation for all of our members and potential clients barring any contraindications. The anti-aging properties alone are enough for everyone to consider making it a part of their regimen.
Today, I want to explore the Importance of testosterone. After all, Hormone Optimization is one of our premiere services and this is because we believe it to be the foundation upon which a fully functioning and effective protocol is built.
Testosterone is by far the most important hormone that your body produces and processes. Is that an overstatement? That would be a fair assumption and opinion to have considering that not too long ago, high levels of testosterone were falsely linked with being the cause of prostate disease and cancer, aggressive behavior, mood swings, heart disease and a variety of other unpleasant and seemingly dangerous issues.
Now, we know the opposite to be true. Extensive studies have repeatedly disproven the high testosterone-prostate cancer connection and actually shown that optimized testosterone levels prevent prostate disease and cancer and it is low levels of testosterone that cause irritable personalities, brain fog, and put you at greater risk of heart attack.
Just two weeks ago, I was doing a consultation with a potential client who was suffering from an extreme lack of energy, weight gain, brain fog, low sex drive and libido and just an overall feeling of "shittiness." A review of his bloodwork showed that his total testosterone was at 40 ng/dL! No that is not a typo. 40 ng/dL. It would not take one of our medical professionals to point out why he is suffering and feeling the way that he is. Now, I commended him on taking the first step to rectify how he was feeling and he was so adamant about correcting his health that he was exploring all of our other services and inquiring about peptides, vitamins, and sexual health medications. Now, again, I commend him for wanting to invest in his health, however, I had to tell him to pump the brakes. I hate to say it, but some clinics, unfortunately, would be more interested in taking his money and selling him thousands of dollars worth of products and medications, but that is not what we believe in nor how we operate. I explained to him that his extremely low, almost non-existent testosterone levels are the main and primary cause for feeling as horrible as he does. We can address all of these issues and symptoms individually, however, we would just be "pissing into the wind," as the old saying goes. We need to treat the root cause instead of all of the symptomatic areas caused by the low testosterone. By addressing his low testosterone levels and optimizing his hormones, I guaranteed he would feel exponentially better. Once we accomplished this and got him into the optimal testosterone range of about 800-1000 ng/dL, then we could step back, re-assess, and talk about our other services if he was still experiencing some of his reported symptoms.
The point of that story is to say that the foundation of health and wellness, especially for men, begins with hormones. Low or imbalanced hormone levels can have such severe and far-reaching effects that it would be pointless to treat these other symptoms (low energy, low libido, brain fog, weight gain, etc.) without first and foremost optimizing the hormone levels. A strong, efficient and effective health and wellness protocol begins with hormone optimization regardless of what your goals are. Whether it is weight loss, muscle gain, anti-aging, cognitive enhancement or just an overall desire to be healthy and operate at a higher level, the protocol and regimen will always begin with a solid and strong foundation - hormone optimization.
